1 - I won or sold something, how do I contact the other person to trade?
You will be sent an automated email to ask you to contact the buyer/seller and arrange a time to trade. Please be sure to check your emails Junk Mail folders in case the automated email is treated as spam. You will be provided with the buyer/seller email address and their in-game character name so you can contact them directly.  Users should be aware that at this time we are only able to provide in-game character names via the automated email notification that is sent when an item is sold.  If you do not check your email carefully, you will not receive this important information.

2 - How do I leave feedback for someone?
You can leave feedback for someone for every successful bid or sale you have on the auction site. Once an auction is completed, and you have traded with the person in-game, simply sign in and click the "My Feedback" link from the menu bar at the top of the page. From there, click the "open feedbacks" button to obtain a list of all the successful auctions you need to leave feedback for. You should try to leave feedback for other users as regularly as possible beause it will encourage others to leave feedback for you!

3 - How are others bidding against me so quickly?
The website will bid automatically on your behalf up to the maximum bid you enter, which is kept secret from other users. Not all of your bid will be placed against the item at once.

Simply enter the maximum amount you would be willing to pay for the item and click "submit bid". This means there is a chance you can win the auction for LESS than the amount you place a bid for! You will not be able to change (raise) your bid on an auction until you have been outbid by another bidder. So, carefully consider what the MAXIMUM AMOUNT is that you are willing to pay for an item and enter it when you are ready to place a bid. The website will do the rest for you so you don't have to keep watching and bidding yourself until your maximum bid is reached.

4 - How do I place a listing?
Our listing process is simple and easy to understand. We have provided detailed, step by step instructions to guide you through the listing process. If you are new to the site or you have questions about the listing process, please read the How to place a listing page.

5 - Can I cancel an auction once someone has placed a bid?
No. Once a person has bid on your item, you cannot cancel the auction.

From time to time we hear the old story "I listed it, but I sold it in-game to someone else before the auction finished". Selling an item to someone else while your auction is still running will simply lead to BAD FEEDBACK from the person who eventually wins your auction. If someone wins your auction and you don't have the item to sell them they will be entitled to leave you negative feedback and the administrators of this site will not remove it.

In short, don't sell something in-game that is still under auction or you might find yourself at the receiving end of some negative feedback.

6 - I registered but I can't sign in.
After you have completed the registration form you will be sent an automated email asking you to activate your account. You will not be able to sign in until you have activated your account so please read the instructions you receive in the email carefully and do what it says.

7 - The other person won't trade me, what do I do?

In some situations people aren't regularly online, or they are in a different time zone.  The best way to contact someone is by email to arrange a specific time to trade in-game.  You are provided with buyer/seller email addresses automatically by the site once a listing ends.  This should be your first point of contact.

If you have tried emailing and looking for the person in-game, and it has been more than one week since the auciton concluded, then we recommend to leave neutral feedback stating that the trade was unable to take place.

In extreme situations where the other user is actively avoiding meeting and completing the trade, we urge you to raise a support ticket to ask our moderators for assistance.

8 - What is the difference between a Standard Auction and a Dutch Auction?
Every auction on the Guild Wars Auctions website will either be a "standard auction" or a "Dutch auction". When the seller only has one item to list in the auction, it will be a "standard auction". Typically, when the seller has two or more of an identical item, it will be a "Dutch auction". These two auction types of are described below:

STANDARD AUCTION:
In a standard auction all bidders bid against each other, and the highest bidder at the end of the auction is the winner of the item, assuming the winning bid has surpassed the "reserve amount" as specified by the seller when the seller listed the auction. In a standard auction there is only ONE winning bidder.
DUTCH AUCTION:
In a Dutch auction the seller is offering two or more of an identical item for auction. Unlike a standard auction, a Dutch auction MAY HAVE MORE THAN ONE winning bidder.

Each bidder bids on either all, or a desired number of the auction items, and indicates the price that he/she is willing to pay for each of the items. At the end of the auction, all winning bidders will pay the same price for each of their items, which is the lowest qualifying (successful) bid. If there are more successful bids than items available, priority goes to the bidders who submitted their bids first. In order to beat another bidder, a bid must simply have a higher total bid price per item than the other bids, regardless on the number of items that are being bid on.

Here is an example of how this might work:

The seller listed a Dutch auction with 5 identical items.

> Bidder "A" placed a bid for 2 items at 20 gold each.
> Bidder "B" placed a bid for 4 items at 21 gold each.

The outcome of this auction would be:

> Bidder "B" wins 4 items at 20 gold each
> Bidder "A" wins 1 item at 20 gold each

The 20 gold price is because the lowest successful bid was 20 gold. The total items were awarded based upon Bidder B's willingness to bid a higher amount than Bidder A.

9 - Someone left me some nasty feedback, can you remove it?
This website is not responsible for validating the authenticity of feedback comments made by other users in relation to trades that have occured within the Guild Wars game. However, we do not tolerate verbal abuse or obscene language on our site. There are language filters in operation on this site to prevent certain words from being used, but we accept that people are likely to find loopholes in these filters from time to time.

If someone has left you feedback regarding an auction on this website and you feel it is abusive or obscene in nature, and therefore is in breech of the Terms of Use for using this site, please contact us with the necessary details.

10 - What do I do if I've forgotten my password or username or both?
At the bottom of the login box there is a link you can use to resend your account information to you. You need to know your email address in order to resend your account information. You can also access the page
here.

11 - How do I change my email address?
When you are logged into your account on the site, you can go to My Account >> My Account Information and select the "Edit My Info" button. A page will open that allows you to change your current email address. You will be required to enter and re-confirm your password at the same time. When you are finished, click the "Submit My Changes" button.

12 - I searched for an item but the site can't find it!
Please be aware that our site uses correct grammar, including the use of comma's and apostrophe's. If you are unsure about how to correctly spell the name of an item, please check Guild Wars Wiki or other sites that contain correct descriptions of in-game items.

13 - Can I change my auction once I have listed it?
Yes. You can amend the details of any auction, or delete the auction, up until the point that the first bid has been placed. Once a bid has been placed, you cannot edit any of the auction content.

If a seller discovers they have made a significant error in the details provided in the listing, after the first bid has been placed, a seller may contact us with the necessary information and we will review the problem. For removal of doubt, a significant error constitutes a change in the written details provided to describe the items in the listing itself.  A significant error does not include changes to price details, so be careful what prices you choose.

In the event that an administrator wishes to amend your listing, they will review the nature of the changes made.  If any changes made to the described contents are seen to lower the value of the listing, the previous bids against the item will be removed and the auction will restart. The previous bidders may also be given the option to leave negative feedback for the seller if the auction is restarted or changed.

14 - I got scammed! Can you help me?
The Guild Wars Auctions website and its administrators will not enter into discussions with buyers or sellers about 'scams' that take place in game as part of settling a transaction once it has concluded on this site. By clicking "yes" to our Terms of Use, every user acknowledges and accepts that this site has no responsibility to settle or resolve issues between buyers and sellers in relation to trade transactions made within the Guild Wars game itself.

The administrators of this site have the right to ignore enquiries regarding 'scams' that take place in game, however, if you feel that the person who traded you has conducted themselves in a manner that is in breach of our Terms of Use then please raise a
support ticket for our moderators staff.  In most cases our moderators are able to solve minor disputes between buyers and sellers and are willing to do so to make everyone's trading experience more enjoyable.

15 - How much should I buy or sell something for?
For removal of doubt, please note that our administrators will not respond to any requests for price-checks. Buyers and Sellers should conduct their own research to establish what is a fair price prior to listing or placing a bid. It is not the purpose of this website to attempt to guide or control the prices of listed items. We are also not responsible for validating the authenticity of any listed items on our site, so buyers should excercise caution when trading.

16 - Why does the listing page keep continuing from where I left off last time?
The listing page has a surprisingly good memory. If you are half way through a listing, then follow a few links and return to the listing page later, it remembers where you were up to. Sometimes you might wish to start over and not continue your earlier listing. If this is the case you need to click the "cancel listing" button at the bottom of the page and start over.

17 - Can I close my auction early? I need the money now!
No. You cannot close an auction earlier than the time you specified when you listed the item.

18 - Why do I keep getting error messages when I try to upload an image?
The maximum file size for any individual image is 100,000 bytes (100 kilobytes). If you are trying to upload an image greater than this size, you will receive an error message and the upload will fail. The average file size for a properly cropped image to display any game item is only 10 kilobytes, so the limit we have provided is more than sufficient. If you are having trouble uploading an image you should try to avoid using file types such as BMP.

We recommend converting your image files to JPEG before attempting to upload them. You should also properly crop the image to reduce the file size (for example, don't try to upload images directly from your guild wars screens folder, they will be too large). If you don't know how to resize or convert an image, try using Microsoft Paint or GIMP.

19 - How can I get un-banned from the live shout box?
The live shout box is programmed to automatically ban people for using any offensive language. Offensive language includes any game related insults (for example "noob" or "n00b") or remarks that are considered inappropriate for children.

If you think you have been banned from the live shout box unfairly you can raise a support ticket with our moderators at the Support Center. The moderators will investigate the offence further but you should be warned, raising the matter with the moderators will draw further attention to your offence and, if deemed severe, may lead to a temporary ban from the auction site itself.  From time to time the banned list for the live shout box is reset automatically, so people who are banned will ultimately have another chance to use the live shout box in future.

20 - How do I make the live shout box refresh automatically and play a chime when people speak?
The live shout box will only automatically update and play a chime when people speak if you have enabled your browser to accept cookies from the Guild Wars Auctions site. The shoutbox installs a cookie to tell your browser to automatically update when anyone posts a new shout. It is much easier than refreshing the screen manually, so we recommend you accept cookies from this website.
